Pixels

Maybe our world will grow kinder someday

The opposing tensions pull now until they could snap

Casual comments tossed at screens

Vile hatred spewed in plain sight

Pixels against pixels where no one is real and nothing is sacred

Spare feelings?

Why?

Only mine matter

My values and my principles

I see no consequences, no face in the pixels

Is anything real or is it all just simulation?

Shiny grass protects us from each other, makes us anonymous

And invincible

And sad

And lonely

Look up, at light and realness

See beyond, search deeper

Find what the pixels hide

Maybe our world will grow kinder someday, and we will claw out of this mess, but first we will have the reckoning we deserve

We did this to ourselves
